A New Angel

Was a terrible shock to hear of Gloria Muir passing away.  A wonderful lady who helped me at a time when I needed to trace a special person.  I can never thank her enough, even though I found them too late as they too had passed away.  Sleep tight you told me so much in such a short time. X

  • I don’t believe I ever met or knew Gloria, I feel cheated, it appears that I missed out on a special person judging by the comments posted.

  • What a shock, I’ve only just picked up on this very sad news. I last saw Gloria in Lowestoft a few years ago, she was very fit then and came to meet me with her daughter. They were very similar and were on really good form. Gloria was a kind girl and although she had an attitude as a teenager she was very soft hearted inside. I knew Gloria’s brother Fred Sewell when he had his V8 Ford Pilot in Laindon, I was about 15 at the time and was very proud to ride in that car with him on a few occasions. Gloria was one of the original rockers and most of our friends living in Laindon back then had motorbikes or cars to fit the times. Gloria kindly gave me a picture of Fred and Pam’s wedding recently which only goes to show how thoughtful she was. I hope you rest peacefully Gloria my friend.

  • Gloria’s family would like any of Gloria’s old Laindon friends to pay their respects – Beccles Crematorium at 4pm: afterwards Harbour Inn, Southwold at 5.30pm. 28th April 2016.  Please no flowers, donations to a Wildlife Society.  Please wear bright colours and if you have a brooch or badge of any wildlife creatures, that will be appreciated.

  • So sad to hear of Gloria’s demise, what a character she was, in her youth and her older years. A great help to her prickly friends the hedgehogs, she was a champion! My condolences to her family and many friends, Ken Page, Australia.

  • Gloria contributed many articles and comments to this website in the early years of its launch under her maiden name ’Gloria Sewell’.   She certainly was a real Laindon girl who always spoke with great affection of her childhood in Laindon and of growing up there.  She was very proud of her roots and her stories remain on the website to be re-read and enjoyed.

We were saddened to learn of Gloria’s passing on 17th April and would like to offer our deepest condolences to her family at this sad time.

  • Very upset to hear of Gloria’s passing but so glad we had the chance of spending a day together some months back; hadn’t changed in spirit – still a giggle.  Rest in Peace Gloria, with love from Andrea and Chris xx
