Eileen Fowler

(maybe) the first keep fit instructress?

I have always thought that the famous keep fit instructor Eileen Fowler was a ‘local’. Lately been wondering why Eileen hadn’t been included in the ‘Noteworthy’ section of LDCA, only to have been informed that she wasn’t from around these parts. Is this correct?

  • Thanks Nina for the information.  Eileen Fowler – born too early!  I feel this high-spirited lady would have made an invaluable contribution in today’s society.

  • Eileen Fowler, keep-fit instructor, born 1906; died 7th March 2000, aged 93. Although Eileen Fowler doesn’t qualify as one of Laindon District’s ‘noteworthy people’, she was a close neighbour.  Eileen lived and worked in Thurrock and is mentioned on the Thurrock Archive website:-  http://www.thurrock-history.org.uk/fowler.htm
