Is number 3 Garry Cooper?
No. 40 is my dad, Robert Ryan, we live in the Isle of Man now, moved in 1992 from Orsett.
Has anybody else studied this photograph as much as I have, I wonder? Certain people seem to share, or at least show, certain similarities. Compare no. 33 Billy Tyler, no. 60 Jimmy Bird and no. 58 Clive Jeakins. Look alike facially with similar hairstyles and even the pose looks the same. Maybe I need to find something else to occupy my time!
No. 27 is Christopher Fuller.
That’s me, No. 44.
No. 12 is Edward Miller and in front of him with no number is Gerald Ludlow.
No. 44 is Fred Parker for sure.
No. 7 is Peter Jones.
No. 37 This person is none other than my good self. Great site.
No. 3 is Alfred Martin and No. 5 is Ivan Sargent. I am 100% sure.
Hi Pete Reynolds how are you doing? I last went back into LHR school in 2002. The janitor let myself and Graham Todd go in for a final look around. The school was empty by then and was due for eventual demolition. We found many of the familiar classrooms like the one near the boy’s entrance where we spent a brief time with Mr Rees about 1962.
I remember you and Mart Graves going off early to play football for the school sometimes, the only two in our class to do so. I think he emigrated around 1970. Macky Scott did marry Jacqui Sheppard, I met him a few times in the mid 70s when he was a CID branch policeman in Colchester. I lost track of Mart Brown, Geoff Heather and Johnny Langton around 1968 after my 21st birthday party which they attended.
I remember the wooden board in the main school hall which I recall had your name engraved as head boy 62-63 so that sticks in my mind. I do hope you are keeping well. Cheers Richard.
62 is definitely me! Proud to be in 5X with some fantastic characters. Top of the list has to be Mr Rees – such a superb teacher. Working through the photos has brought back so many happy memories. Where are you all now? Martin Graves, John Langton, Martin Brown, Geoff Heather, Bill Crowhurst, Dave Basham, Susan King, Jackie Sheppard, Mary Baker, Graham Todd, Malcolm Scott, somebody told me married Jackie Sheppard.
I left after O-levels to Palmers in Grays and then on to college and do a Mr Munday and teach P.E. Made me appreciate what a good guy he was – and many of the other staff too. Good ole Yogi Bear, Frank Foreman et al. I do hope that we are all still in good health ….best wishes to all. Special thanks to all your researching Richard.
Hi, I think you will find that number 49 is Peter Cousins.
His father ran Buckingham butchers near the Fortune of War.
Brian Baylis Please note that Pat Roper had already reported Ian Horner’s motor cycling accident on this website back in 2011. There are also others on here too who had tragic accidents, I’m sure we probably all know somebody who did.
I sat next to the late Ian Horner (63) in Mr. Poole’s class. I understand he was killed in a motorbike accident, whilst returning to his naval base. If I am wrong, then I apologise for any upset.
I am sure number 3 is Alfred Martin not John Gilbert
I am trying hard to fill in the blanks, so here is another no.16 is Phil Walters.
No 23 Tony Ecles, no 24 Ronny Hedges, no 26 Eddy Childs and no 25 Peter Houghton.
To Andrea yes he did
No 40 deff Robert Ryan he’s my brother.
I think no 5 is Ivan Sargent
I remember Alver Ellul as I couldn’t pronounce when I was little. I lived in Berry Lane and went to LHR from 1960 to 1965 I think. Name was Joan White. I alos remember gordon Wright. How comes you got such a difficult name to pronounce. My sister was Nova White now Cross
For Brian Cordell please – re Gordon Wright – didn’t he accompany you to a couple of recent events?
Number 39 sitting between Bill Johnston and Robert Ryan definitely not Terry Reynolds, my old neighbour – maybe brother Trev is reading this so you will be able to confirm. However, that boy number 39 – I do recognise him, but his name escapes me.
51 I think is Gordon Wright, lived High Rd. end of Berry Lane.
No 39 is not Terry Reynolds. He is No 14 on page 14. Andrea also pointed this out earlier (see above).

Terry Reynolds 39 was my next door neighbour behind school, good footballer.

Yes they are different blokes 13-39 and 14-14.
Terry was the one in our class he left school to work at Bonnalack Lorry fitters, and I am still in contact with him.
No 39 is Terry Renolds.
Terry Reynolds, once my next door neighbour, is number 14 on page 14.

No:30 is Roy Jefferson?
35 ….? Cook (little ruffian)
Ok, is 45 Brian Stepney?
33 is Billy Tyler not Michael Marchant
No 54 is Michael Ellis.
Back again I think No 58 is Clive Jenkins.
Could No. 6 be Charlie Simms?
Clive Jenkings is no 58 def 😉
Sadly 63 Ian Horner was killed in a motor bike accident around the sixties, he lived near me at Langdon Hills and Peter Marshall no 64 died some time last year, I saw it in the local paper very sad.
Further to Peter Reynolds the Head Boy 62/3,he completed his A levels at Palmers then became a PE teacher…now retired according to his brother .
Does anyone else think number 43 could be a John Chapman?
HY Ian, 19 may be John Sargent unless you get a better offer,Ken.
No. 49 Geoffrey White?
Hi Richard’ Apologies , You are right he did become Head Boy AND then went onto Grays Palmers where his brother David went straight from Markhams Chase. I have since emailed David to confirm all this Regards
No 8. is still two people. Ron Thomas on the left and Roy Brummel on the right. Perhaps they could be 8A and 8B.

No. 8. Ron Thomas. No. 9. Roy Brummel
No. 55 is Derek Hince 58 ? Jenkins No 18 is William Bullock
No 3 is John Gilbert Is no 33 Michael Marchant ?? or he could be no 60 No 59 Joe Borowski
Number 64 is Peter Marshall
17. Jimmy Hopkins
62 is Peter Reynolds however I don’t think this is the one that became head boy because this one passed the 13+ and the went to Grammar School in Grays.I was friends with his brother David.
No 54 is Graham Todd
No sorry Graham Todd is in the next picture already named.
No Eric, Peter Reynolds went through to 5X at LHR, became head boy, Kathy Imber was head girl. Then Peter went to Grays Palmers after passing all his O levels at LHR. Kathy went on to become a clippie on Eastern National.
15. Fred Llewellyn 17. ? Hopkins. 29. David Galsworthy 28. Terry Venner 41. Fred Penson 42. Michael Ellison 60. Jimmy Bird? 61. Michael Venables
63 Peter Reynolds – future head boy 1962/3
No 8. appears to be two people. Ron Thomas on the left and Roy Brummel on the right.
Editor: My error I sort it out. Take 8 as the face to the left.
No 10. Pete Townsend?
1 Alan Shead. 13 Peter Whiting 20 Austin Leagon ( not sure of spelling) 47 Geofrey Ashdon 63 Ian Horner
No. 5 – could be Josie Collins’ brother ? No. 9 – Ivan Dallas (RIP) No. 11 – Peter Tanswell No. 38 – Bill Johnston No. 42 – Michael Elliston No. 62 – Peter Marshall
62’s Pete Reynolds
Think Josie Collins’ brother’s name was Ivan too?
