  • Hi Josie, you are right about the name Tanswell, there was Valerie and her brother Peter. Their dad was the labour candidate, they lived on the slip road on the right as you entered King Edward Road (King Edward Terrace).

    By Alan Taylor (02/04/2020)
  • Who is no 55 in the photo does anyone recognise?

Editor: The names are shown above and below the photo. No 55 is Betty Andrews.

    By Mel Lake (11/03/2020)
  • My name is Josie Hunt, No 8 on page 6. Is there anyone of us left? Xxx

I’ve just seen this site. I attended Laindon secondary school 1955, my name was then Josie Hunt (now Hurley). My brother-in-law was there too, Bobs Hurley. I’ve seen the name Gloria Sewell. I know the name but can’t remember a face. My friend there was Gloria Hudson. I remember my science teacher Mr Clough. Another teacher, Mr Reece ? I got the PE prize every year, our PE teacher was Miss Thomas. Head Teacher was Mr Woodward. History teacher, Mr Anthony. First year teacher was Miss Jollyman who smoked like a trooper! Digging deep for memories. But I know I remember that name Gloria Sewell ! I remember a girl whose name was Tanswell? I’ll probably remember some more names in the middle of the night! Is there anyone out there seeing this??x

    By Josie Hunt (16/02/2020)
  • I am looking for Betty Anne Andrews, formerly of 78 Devonshire Road, Laindon, Essex. My name is Mel Lake. I would love to hear from you.

    By Mel Lake (12/12/2019)
  • No.18 is Dorothy Tait.

    By Christine Snazell (30/01/2017)
  • No. 60 definitely my sister Anne Baldwin.

    By Robert Baldwin (22/11/2015)
  • Maureen Card was in my class at Laindon Hills School. I think her dad had a fish shop.

    By Sandra Springall (25/10/2015)
  • No. 44.  The name Mrs Parris rings a bell – anybody agree?

    By Nina Humphrey(née Burton) (01/03/2015)
  • 44 Could be Margaret Parris, she is mentioned in the introduction to this 1958 school year photograph.

    By Richard Haines (01/03/2015)
  • I seem to remember having a few maths lessons with her in either the 2nd or 3rd year (equations I think).  Softly spoken, very kindly, patient lady.

    By Nina Humphrey(née Burton) (01/03/2015)
  • Funny how things stick in your mind. I remember visiting No 49 Carol Craft at the BP garage one Saturday with Kathy Hymas No 50. We had just finished a shift at Hatters Garage. As we went into the kiosk, Carol was just putting on make up and there was a nice smell of perfume as well. The first time I had been that close to a good looking young lady and at the age of 16, for me it was a heady experience, they were about 18 at the time. Happy days .

  • Number 13 on page 6 is Kathryn Spooner

  • No. 29 is Maureen Hudson

By Marilyn Green (née Bradfield) (12/05/2013)
  • Hi Nina sorry but No. 9 is not Joyce Milton. She is on the next page No. 26

    By Alan Taylor (18/02/2013)
  • Have just been looking at the photograph of all the pupils year 1958  Page 6 number 15 is my sister Gloria Hudson.

By Carol Brennan (Née Hudson) (03/07/2012)
  • Number 21 is definatly Maureen Perry not Pat Perry.

    By Emma Thomas (19/04/2012)
  • No. 44 definitely isn’t Mrs Callaghan – she didn’t start at the school until later. I do remember No 44, very pleasant lady, attractive and always well turned out. She didn’t work at the school for long, maybe just a year, trying hard to recall her name.

    By Nina Humphrey(née Burton) (19/03/2012)
  • Could 44 be Miss Callaghan?

    By Connell (26/02/2012)
  • Silly me 61 Linda Brooks one of my pals from King Edward also on Showtime picture.

    By Gloria Sewell (24/02/2012)
  • Ann, ok well who is 44 then?

    By Richard Haines (23/02/2012)
  • This photograph is haunting me. I realised in the middle of the night that No 43 is not Mrs. Collison but Mrs. Bane who was Mr. Woodward’s Secretary.

    By Ann Dolton (22/02/2012)
  • 54 is Carol Ludlow Moved from Corona Rd Laindon Hills to Devonshire Rd A lovely person.

    By Les Buck (19/02/2012)
  • No 42 Mrs Fordham the school secretary

    By Norman Styles (15/02/2012)
  • I think No. 43 may be Mrs. Collison. She took us for Art for a short time.

    By Ann Dolton (14/02/2012)
  • Ruth Millstead 24. Her & her sister girlfriends from Noak Hill when I was 9!

    By Roger Wicking (12/02/2012)
  • 60 The name that came to mind was Anne Baldwin? perhaps someone else can confirm or deny?

By Linda French (née Stenson) (22/01/2012)
  • No. 18. Pat Brewer ?

By Nina Humphrey (née Burton) (20/01/2012)
  • There was some earlier confusion over No. 34 and No. 35. As things now stand, Rose Leonard is No 35. in high necked white blouse, dark hair pulled back from her face with a little bit coming forward into a fringe.

    By Nina Humphrey(née Burton) (05/01/2012)
  • No 27 Pat Pattle. No 35 Rose Leonard?

Editor: we now have 34 and 35 identified as the same person, please check?

By Pam Quarman nee Atkins (04/01/2012)
  • Number 27 is my sister Pat Pattle from King Edward Road. Pat now live’s in Suffolk.

By Jean Rowe (née Pattle) (04/01/2012)
  • No 34. Her name is Rose Leonard, not Brenda as I had previously thought. However, her number seems to have been changed to 35, so now we have two with the number 35. Can she be changed back to No. 34?

Editor: Sorry Nina, I must have made that error when this page was republished after I tried to sort out the numbering previously. I have made a temporary adjustment and will make the final adjustments when we put the new pages together.

    By Nina Humphrey(née Burton) (29/12/2011)
  • 23 Ann Chapman

    By Peter Whiting (16/12/2011)
  • Ann Chapman is on Page 7, No. 52. Unless there are two girls with the same name. Ann and I were in the same class.

    By Nina Humphrey(née Burton) (16/12/2011)
  • Andrea, your call on Kathy, if you say number 50 then it must be so. Certainly 49 is Carol. :))

    By Richard Haines (29/11/2011)
  • All I can say is that I grew up with the Hymas family, was in their house, played with the kids all the time – they, and their mum Kate were always in our house, which was next door but one. I can’t see the other girls looking remotely like Kathy (number 50). But hey – que sera, or as they say these days – whatever! LOL xx

Editor: Just in case there is some confusion 56 is the girl immediately the left and 50 is the girl in the row behind with the number just below her chin.

    By Andrea (28/11/2011)
  • Hi Nina, is No 21 Pat or her sister Maureen. Is No 49 Carol Craft?

By Shirley Thompson née Talbot (27/11/2011)
  • Hi Shirley. Yes of course, now I remember, her name was Maureen Perry – thank you for tweaking my memory – if I remember rightly, she married Alfie Bartley. Not sure about Carol Craft. You could be right. I recognise so many faces but cannot think of their names. Best wishes.

    By Nina Burton (27/11/2011)
  • I think we have got it correct now, 49 is Carol Craft and 56 is Kathy Hymas. How do I know, well Kathy worked with me in Hatters garage while Carol was in the BP garage near the roundabout. They were buddies.

    By Richard Haines (27/11/2011)
  • No 39 is Valerie Miller

By Patsy Spendlove née Roper (26/11/2011)
  • 33 is my friend and Margaret Mason 🙂 no 36 is Frances Beager 🙂

By Patsy Spendlove née Roper (24/11/2011)
  • I’ve just noticed that due to renumbering we now appear to have got Kathy Hymas correct as number 56. Can we therefore switch this in the name list underneath please. As I recall Kathy was always happy, always had a new joke or song to tell or a new funny episode which had happened to her in our A127 Regent garage forecourt during the day (I took over from her at 4 oclock in the week). We used to have a tip jar which by the time she went home was always full up with cash, proving what a popular girl she was. It was me though who committed the most embarassing things like filling up a 40 gallon tank on a lorry with petrol instead of diesel and dropping a full quart of Duckhams oil in a glass bottle onto the showroom floor. Or trying to run away from two alsatians in their locked compound whilst carrying a 5 gallon drum of paraffin. Many good tales to tell of those happy times in that cold winter of 62-63. Hope you are ok Kathy !!

    By Richard Haines (09/11/2011)
  • No. 52 is Brenda Holt.

    By Nina Burton (09/11/2011)
  • Oh dear, more number changes. Pamela Patrick is now No. 20 and Pat Perry is No. 21.

    By Nina Burton (09/11/2011)
  • Hi everyone I am meeting up with Pam Callow this week, hopefully will find her sisters Linda and Diana if they are also in it.

    By Gloria Sewell (08/11/2011)

    By Gloria Sewell (08/11/2011)
  • Gloria, Lin and Diane wont be in it because they were much too young. Pam might find herself on there I would be interested to hear of any tales you bring back thanks!

    By Richard Haines (08/11/2011)
  • No. 9. Joyce Milton

    By Nina Burton (07/11/2011)
  • No. 33. NOT Christine Mason

    By Nina Burton (07/11/2011)
  • 40 Miss Munt was my French teacher in the second and third years. She later got married and became Mrs Parrinder. Very strict young lady. I’m just looking at one of her Honours Certificates now which says ‘A very good translation into English’, M.A.Parrinder. I do hope she is keeping well.

    By Richard Haines (06/11/2011)
  • Richard has anyone found Pam Callow yet? I have looked close and can’t see her, did she wear glasses at school? She did when she married Fred. I will go round to ask her if no ones found her yet, she lives in Suffolk now.

    By Gloria Sewell (05/11/2011)
  • Gloria I can’t see Pam on this photo. I can’t see her on the copy I have here at home either. My guess is she either didn’t wear glasses at the time, she was not at school that day or some other reason. Or it could be she is hiding in the photo along with Vanessa. I nearly went dizzy last night searching on these photos and gave up about 12.30. I reckon she’ll suddenly pop out when I’m looking for someone else. It will be good for some other people to look at this site who will know and identify other school kids who are on here in this photograph. At least you can see Fred now.

    By Richard Haines (05/11/2011)
  • Hi Richard, Very sorry I can’t help with Pam Callow as I didn’t know her, I can only recall some names from people at the top of the picture where I am, as they were the ones I seemed to know. I have also found my old autograph book and am looking at it with all the signatures from both Langdon Hills and Laindon High Road such lovely memories including Miss Jollyman but have been unable to put all the names I’ve got, to the faces in the photo kind regards (Happy hunting)

    By Joan Baterip (05/11/2011)
  • No. 9. Joyce ?

    By Nina Humphrey(nee Burton) (05/11/2011)
  • Message to Joan Sarfas, which one is Pam Callow?

    By Richard Haines (04/11/2011)
  • I thought I had too, but can’t quite recall if I left Xmas 1957 or summer 1958. I would like to know who this person is, she is my teenage double. It could be my pal Veronica Nightingale some say we looked alike, I hope someone can tell me.

Editor: This photograph was taken October 1958.

    By Gloria Sewell (04/11/2011)
  • 44 the French teacher Can’t remember her name

    By Andrea (04/11/2011)

    By Richard Haines (04/11/2011)

By Brenda Mason (née Lewis) (03/11/2011)

    By Richard Haines (03/11/2011)
  • 24 Ruth Millsted ? 1 is Jessie Hernandez not Jessica, you are doing an amazing job well done.

    By Joan Baterip (03/11/2011)
