  • Alan, there was no mellowing of “the dragon lady” during the 7 years I attended (1944 – 1951). I did a double final year with Mr Richardson. Miss O’Brien was probably the most vivid memory of my time at Langdon Hills Primary.

  • I attended Langdon Hills twenty years earlier (1939 — 1945) but I am surprised to see some of the same teachers were still there. Mrs Baker, who taught second year infants, and the terror of all boys and girls — the dragon lady Miss O’Brian. Perhaps she had mellowed over the course of the interim twenty years. I assume that Miss Wilkinson was the daughter of Mr Wilkinson who was one of the two male teachers in my day. However, I am not sure about that, it may simply be a coincidence of the name.

  • Miss Wilkinson used to play the accordion and we all did country dancing. I remember wearing navy blue knickers but can’t remember if that was for dancing or PE. Or were they bottle green?

  • Yes that is me, Karla, No. 39, but my surname is spelt Flentge. In fact it still is. I was scared of Miss O’Brien too! Does anyone know where Phillip Anstey moved to? I live in Melbourne, Australia now and have done for the last 31 years. I too would love to have a copy of this photo, as I seem to have lost mine in the move over here.

  • I saw Miss Wilkinson last year at a choir concert at The Paddocks on Canvey Island. I spoke to her and asked did she remember me and she did. I was either really good or really bad.
