Memories of Laindon Cricket Club
Laindon Cricket Club
It was lovely to see the “Laindon Memories” and would like to add a short piece about Laindon Cricket Club. My first memory of the Club was when I played at the Country Club in Basildon Road and the members names who I can remember are as follows:
Ray Farmer, Les Shepherd, Tony Williams, Reg Callow, Bill Diment, Eric Webster, Roy Webster, Derek Cordrey, Doug Cordrey, Geoff Fynn, Brian Fynn, Rev. Bernard Lloyd, Derek Ginby, Eric Burns, Barry Legg, Terry Harris, Robin Shields, George Buck, Jack Robinson, Mark Williams, Derek Callow, Roy Pratt, Jack Barwick, Jack Wilson, Eric Burns and Keith Holsgrove.
My apologies for anyone that I may have forgotten, although I do know that some of the above members are no longer with us.
From the Country Club, the Club moved to Langdon Hills recreation ground.
Having lived in Wash Road for 67 years, in 2007 my wife Ann and I moved to the Wirral, where I now play golf .
I would be thrilled to hear from anyone from the Club or if anyone can add any names.

While Bert had missed the name of John, they both had something very much in common, in that John’s mum and Bert’s wife both devoted their time as scorers for the cluib. This is probably from where the term ‘grass widows’ emanated.
Hello Bert, So, you have forgotten all about me? – not surprising really, since I am quite a forgettable sort of person and I left Laindon well before the cricket club moved back to the Langdon Hills Rec. I certainly remember you from our school days although I cannot call to mind any specific incidents or events that I can pin on you!! You may have a better memory than I! We used to live in Brackenmount until we were bought out by the Development Corporation, when we moved into the New Town. Since leaving the Laindon area, my wife and I have moved around quite a bit and are now up in the wilds of Suffolk where, like you, I enjoy a round of golf. I hope you are enjoying life in the Wirral. Best wishes.
