I hope everyone enjoys watching this clip which I found purely by chance.  Billy Foyle and King are mentioned in various places on this website, in particular his visit to a bar for a pint. This clip shows the interior of the Laindon Hotel, the bar staff and many of the customers.

Do you recognise anyone?

Enjoy.

  • How happy you have made me in finding this clip! My mum was Billy’s sister and I have often told my own sons about uncle bill and king playing football! I am sure they did not believe me! Then to tell them he used to take king in the pub was to much! Now I have the proof thank you so very much for sharing it!

  • Hi Andrea. Yes, it’s a great piece of film isn’t it – a real bit of history and the first time I have ever seen inside the Hotel. I didn’t recognise anybody but very pleased you may have known one of the boys. Let’s hope a few more come forward with names. I am sure somebody will know the names of the man and woman behind the bar.

There must be other little gems tucked away somewhere out in the community. When I was about 6 years old, my sister took me to a Coronation Pageant on the field at LHR. Her friend Sylvie Short played Queen Elizabeth I and rode onto the field on a horse. I also remember some boys doing a gymnastic display. Apparently, somebody was taking a cine film. Now that would be amazing if it was ever located.

In early 1962, we had a ‘careers conference’ in the school hall. Mr Hawkins took a cine film. He played it back to us a few days later. It showed our class filing into the hall and settling at the tables, while various people came to talk to us. I wonder what ever happened to that piece of film! Best wishes
