Essex Wildlife Trust Langdon Visitors Centre

Special Memory Day at the Dunton Centre on Mothering Sunday 2012

We set up the archive in the new classroom building at the Dunton Centre, the facilities were very good and ideal for our purpose with plenty of space and light. We had only just finished sorting ourselves out when the first visitors started to filter in.

Many that came throughout the day were already familiar local faces and contributors to our site, but there were many new visitors who expressed great interest in the archive.  We were joined by Nina & Colin Humphrey who stayed for the whole session with Keith Jackson, Andrea Ash & Sue Randford popping in and staying for a while to see how it was going.

The photographer from the Echo arrived to take pictures & gather information about the Archive as the centre had advertised that the event was being held there that day. Although we did not sell much merchandise many visitors gave us donations to support the aims of the Archive, which all adds to the kitty to keep the archive developing.

The visitors were very enthusiastic, many of whom were not locals but just there for the local walks in the avenues and to visit The Haven. Comments about the Archive were very complimentary and we even had to turn folks away while we were packing up.

The staff told us we had more “customers” than them that day so hopefully the success will prove to continue with future events.

This was a very successful and informative event
